      Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the bunkhouse different from typical budget lodging in northwest Ohio?

Gilboa Quarry’s bunkhouse offers hostel-style shared accommodations at $25 per bed per night with immediate access to our quarry featuring spring-fed water with 30-40 feet of visibility. Unlike typical budget hotels or motels, your stay also includes beach swim bands for quarry access, climate-controlled sleeping, a shared kitchenette to save on meals, and proximity to outdoor activities including swimming, diving, kayaking, and paddleboarding. You’re staying within an adventure destination, not just finding cheap lodging.

How does the shared dormitory work?

The bunkhouse features 13 twin beds in one shared co-ed dormitory-style room with climate control (heat and AC). It operates like a hostel with communal sleeping arrangements. Solo travelers book individual beds through Campspot. Groups wanting privacy can contact our office to reserve the entire 13-bed bunkhouse. You’ll share the space with other travelers, making it ideal for budget-conscious adventurers, solo divers, and groups seeking affordable accommodations.

Do I need to bring my own bedding?

Yes. You must bring your own sheets, pillow, blankets, and/or sleeping bag for your twin bed. The bunkhouse provides the bed frame and mattress only—no bedding, linens, or pillows are provided. Think of it like hostel-style accommodations where you bring your sleeping materials. This keeps costs low and maintains our affordable $25 per bed rate.

Can groups reserve the entire bunkhouse?

Yes! Groups can book all 13 beds to have the bunkhouse to themselves. Contact our office directly via phone or email to arrange full bunkhouse reservations. This works great for dive clubs, youth groups, family reunions, or friend groups wanting private shared accommodations at an affordable group rate. Individual bed bookings are available through Campspot.

Is the bunkhouse suitable for families with children?

Yes. Families can book multiple beds in the shared dormitory. The bunkhouse includes a beach swim band per each bed booked, giving families affordable access to swimming, paddling, and quarry activities. The shared kitchen allows families to prepare meals together. Keep in mind the sleeping area is shared with other guests unless you book the entire bunkhouse. Families wanting more privacy may prefer our tent or RV camping options.

What's included in the $25 per bed rate?

Your $25 per night rate includes: one twin bed in the climate-controlled shared dormitory, personal locker for secure storage, a beach swim band per night booked, 24/7 bathhouse access directly below the bunkhouse, shared refrigerator and microwave access, and elevated deck access. You have access to all quarry activities including swimming, kayaking (rentals available), paddleboarding (rentals available), and diving (if certified, upgraded day pass required). Not included: bedding, personal lock for locker, utensils/plates, extra day passes for additional guests.

How do I access the bathhouse from the bunkhouse?

The bunkhouse sits directly above our modern bathhouse facility. Simply walk down the outdoor stairs for 24/7 access to hot showers, flushable toilets, changing rooms, and sinks. This proximity provides ultimate convenience. You’re never more than a few steps from bathroom facilities. The bathhouse is cleaned regularly throughout the day and remains accessible around the clock.

Can I store and reheat my own meals at the bunkhouse?

Yes! The bunkhouse features a shared refrigerator and microwave. You can store and reheat your own meals, significantly reducing lodging costs compared to eating out every meal. Bring pre-made meals, sandwiches, leftovers from local restaurants, or grab-and-go food that can be refrigerated and microwaved. Bring your own utensils, plates, and cups as these are not provided. While the shared refrigerator and microwave operate on a first-come, first-served basis, we ask all guests to be courteous to other bunkhouse guests.

Is there a minimum night stay requirement?

No minimum stay required. You can book single nights or extended stays. The bunkhouse is available through Campspot for flexible reservations. Whether you’re passing through for one night, staying a weekend, or planning a week-long dive trip, single-night bookings are welcome. This flexibility makes the bunkhouse ideal for travelers, divers, and adventurers on varied schedules.

Is the bunkhouse good for solo travelers?

Absolutely! The bunkhouse is perfect for solo travelers seeking affordable northwest Ohio lodging with built-in community. At $25 per bed, it’s one of the most budget-friendly options in the region. You’ll meet other travelers, divers, and adventurers in the shared space. The hostel-style atmosphere encourages connections while providing climate-controlled indoor sleeping, kitchen access, and immediate access to quarry activities. Many solo divers and travelers choose the bunkhouse for the combination of low cost and social environment.
